Community-led transport advocacy

A safer, fairer Galway for every commuter.

The Galway Commuter Coalition is a community-led transport advocacy group focused on delivering credible, mobility solutions for Galway.

We campaign for reliable public transport, safe active travel, and practical, funded solutions to the congestion holding our city back.

Our focus

Reliable Transport

Championing dependable buses, incremental "easy wins", and priority for public transport in transport strategies including long-term investment in public transport projects.

Safe & Connected Streets

Supporting infrastructure that links where people actually live, study and work. That includes protected cycle routes, safer crossings, and strategic links like the Clifden Railway Bridge.

Practical Progress

Many improvements — better bus operations, improved pedestrian access, bus priority measures — are affordable and achievable today. We champion common-sense steps that make daily travel easier while larger projects move through planning.

Why it matters

Economic Competitiveness Transport infrastructure shapes investment decisions. Without credible, long-term solutions — including BusConnects, active travel, and serious exploration of light rail — Galway risks losing SMEs, FDI, and major projects to better-connected regions.
Labour & Connectivity Reliable public transport improves labour mobility, connects people to jobs and education, and supports higher-density growth where it makes sense. Multimodal investment strengthens the entire Galway Metropolitan Area.
Quality of Life Galway residents spend far too long sitting in traffic. Congestion eats into family time, delays students and shift workers, and makes short cross-city trips unnecessarily stressful. A functioning transport system gives people back their time.
